Chrysa Koukoura is a Greece-born, London-educated, Melbourne-based illustrator whose works are intricate, detailed, and intriguing.
Inspired by nature and her love of graphic design, her work is completed mainly with fine-line pens and a lot of time. With works taking between eight and sixty five hours, Chrysa says, 'I treat each drawing like reading a book. I do a bit each day until it is complete.'
Working as an artist from her studio in Melbourne alongside managing a tattoo studio and completing an apprenticeship in the trade, Chrysa's work is largely black and white, with some metallic elements being recently introduced.
Having come from a graphic design background, her process as an illustrator is still full of design influences. 'At the moment I'm obsessed with art-deco graphic design and buildings,' she says, 'as well as 60s psychadelic band posters.'
