Art Pharmacy, in collaboration with Penrith City Council, is proud to present two striking public artworks that redefine the landscape of the Gipps Street Recreation Park, enhancing its identity as a vibrant community space. These site-specific installations, designed to reflect the dynamics of the area, invite interaction, play, contemplation, and a sense of connection.
Emma Anna’s Trikaleidscopes are origami-inspired sculptures that reimagine a paper kaleidoscope toy in a bold, architectural form. Scattered across the ground plane like fallen stars, these hexagonal structures bring a playful yet industrial edge to the urban environment. Their angular geometry, reminiscent of bee hives, serves as a powerful metaphor for the skate park as a hive of activity, constantly buzzing with movement and creativity. Designed to integrate seamlessly with the concrete and metal surfaces of the precinct, Trikaleidscopes encourage engagement while adding a dynamic visual rhythm to the space.

Standing as a beacon of re-emergence, Morgan Shimeld’s towering yellow sculpture, Gateway, embodies themes of growth, diversity, and familial connection. The interlocking forms create an ever-shifting perspective, inviting viewers to explore the play of light and shadow across its faceted surfaces. The central abstracted figures, posed in an embrace, evoke a sense of permanence and strength, reinforcing the importance of community and shared experience. This monumental work encourages visitors to reflect on their own journey and the ever-evolving nature of their surroundings.
These public artworks exemplify Art Pharmacy’s philosophy of integrating art into daily life. Both Trikaleidscopes and Gateway have been thoughtfully designed to resonate with the community, fostering a strong sense of identity and belonging. By merging art with public space, these installations not only bring vibrancy and colour to the precinct but also facilitate meaningful interactions, ensuring that art remains an accessible and integral part of the urban landscape.
